Getting there!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Aug 19, 2020 at 10:17:42 AM

Dear Backers,

we finally received the first lot of powder coated modules (black and white) and they are looking great overall! There's a few minor details which could be improved and the coater will consider this. Next load arriving shortly.  Here's a couple of photos.

Base Board

All colors of the base board material are now in stock.

Unfortunately the manufacturer wasn't able to get precise and consistent cuts with his standard tools. So we decided  to get a custom saw blade made to achieve the best possible results. This will take around 4 weeks from now. So we'll be looking at the end of September in regards to delivery. Sorry for this delay. But we don't want to make any compromise here.

Packaging

All relevant packaging material has arrived now.

All the best and talk soon.

In the making

Dear Backers,

again sorry for the delay in communication! It's been a bit of a waiting game for the last few weeks. But here are some news:

1) Baseboard

There were delays in the delivery of the boards but all colors are now in stock and will be delivered to the production facility.

The CNC machine is set up for milling the boards and we have received a few prototypes already. Overall this is looking good and we are especially happy about the weight reduction. The backside is milled out quite heavily to get the weight down for cheaper shipping and overall handling. Yet the board remains very stable. We are at around 5kg now for one base board.

The most critical parameter for us on the board though are the slits on the front. And here we are still tweaking. It turns out a bit more complicated than we thought because we are planning in 1/10 mm and that's quite a challenge for any wood worker. The current saw blade didn't do a perfect job, so we have switched to a smaller which provides more accurate cuts, however the machine won't reach the inner part of the boards with this blade and needs an adapter to be mounted which is currently being ordered. We hope that after this installation we will be able to finalise the set up and go into production.

2) Modules

We should be receiving the first lot of powdercoated modules in the next couple of days. Will post photos as soon as they arrive.

3) Connector

We've built our own bending device to get the metal connectors made.

These are pushed into 3d printed parts which are inserted into the board. They are basically just there to pull two boards together and avoid a gap between them.

Will make a lil video of the connectors in action soon.

4) Timeline

Unfortunately it looks like we might be running into September with all parts together. If we are lucky end of August, but looking at the current delays I don't want to promise anything. But we are not too far from the finish line! However we still have the corona based shipping hurdle for some countries as described in the last update. Not sure if this changes soon.

Anyways, stay positive. Next update coming sooner than this time, promised!

New add-ons!
almost 4 years ago – Tue, May 12, 2020 at 02:30:30 PM

Dear Backers,

I hope you are all well.

Upon request we added the option to purchase shelving modules as add-ons in the BackerKit pledge manager. Unfortunately we need to pack them individually and additional shipping costs will apply. Shipping costs are calculated by weight.

Please have a think and see if this is an option for you in case you wanna extend your shelving possibilities.

Color combinations - Examples
almost 4 years ago – Tue, May 12, 2020 at 11:49:31 AM

Hello again,

this might come a bit late, but might still be helpful for the one or the other who is undecided about color combinations. I know it's a bit overwhelming since the options are endless. So we visualised a few options which we think work really well. Obviously white and black modules work really well and neutrally on all boards, but with the right combo you can also create some interesting juxtapositions. Check the examples below and be inspired.
